E.ON agrees wind power partnership with Sweden's Holmen

08 February, 2011
The partnership is based on joint project development and investment.

E.ON has signed an agreement with Swedish pulp and paper giant Holmen to jointly develop wind power in the municipality of Ornskoldsvik.

Under the partnership, the companies plan to erect wind turbines in three different areas, primarily located on Holmen's land, with annual production put at an estimated 330 GWh.

"This partnership is fully in line with E.ON's strategy of helping to drive the switch to renewables in Sweden, with success very much dependent on joining forces with major industrial partners," said Jonas Abrahamsson, chief executive officer of E.ON Sweden.

He added that if the joint project goes well, E.ON would look to forge further cooperation in other areas.

Holmen, which describes itself as "a forest products group", is one of Sweden's largest landowners.

The companies said they aimed to have all turbines in place by 2015, with a joint investment decision to be taken in 2013 at the earliest.
