Temporary workers are essential to the success of British companies, a city recruitment expert has said.
According to Sally Cleary, operations manager at city-based Cooper Lomaz Recruitment, workers who temp play a key role in UK businesses.
Speaking ahead of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation's National Temporary Workers Week this week, Ms Cleary pointed out that temps are indispensable when it comes covering maternity leave and other absences.
She also said that temporary workers allow companies to continue to cover all their functions which require short-term increases in staff when financial constraints or other commitments prevent the hiring of full-time staff.
"Temps are a very valuable asset to businesses and sometimes they can go unnoticed, so it is good to put them in the spotlight with National Temporary Workers Week and recognise all the essential work they do keeping businesses ticking over," Ms Cleary told the Norwich Evening News.
Figures show that in the face of economic uncertainty, demand for temporary workers has risen by about 60 per cent within the last six month.
