Second BLP legal team poached for charity

06 August, 2008

Moira Protani, head of charity at Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), has been hired by charity and private client firm Wilsons, to work under the same job title.

Moira Protani, head of charity at Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), has been hired by charity and private client firm Wilsons, to work under the same job title.

Ms Protani joins the Salisbury-based Wilsons in their new London office, after Alison McKenna left the position in May to become the first president of the newly created charities regulator, Charity Tribunal.

Wilsons managing partner Jonathan Stephens told the Lawyer: "Our work in the charity world has been a natural adjunct to our private client practice and both continue to thrive in a symbiotic manner.

"We plan to open a permanent London office in the next 12 months, which will focus on providing private client and charity law advice to our established and expanding client base in the City."

Ms Protani joins Gillian Fletcher, who also made the switch from BLP and will become the organisations consultant on constitutional and governance matters.

The moves represent a strong turn towards highly financed legalrecruitment drives throughout charities aiming to turn their organisations into those with the size and power of Oxfam, Amnesty International and other household names.
