Technology recruitment may be slowing down in the current economic climate, as IT executives struggle to cut back spending, but two technologies are emerging as must-haves.
Take up of service oriented architecture (SOA) is expected to rise by 144 per cent between 2007 and 2009, while the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology will increase by 122 per cent.
They were the most popular technologies in a new survey of chief information officers (CIOs) carried out by IDC.
Melissa Martin of IDC was surprised these results, particularly by the prominence of RFID.
She told ZDNet: "I thought RFID was an odd one to be there, especially in the top 10."
Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) telephony was third in the poll, with 97 per cent growth predicted.
The global economic slowdown is likely to hit internal IT departments relatively hard, with outsourcing of IT and professional services likely to receive a boost as companies look to cut costs.
