The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has stated that more needs to be done to protect the city's open spaces, it has been reported.
In conjunction with Cabe Space, the mayor aims to encourage local councils to make the most of the city's parks and spaces in order to create a better living environment for Londoners.
Mr Johnson has launched the Open Space Strategies guidance; a guide to assessing both the quality and quantity of open space.
Mr Johnson told building.co.uk: "In the face of new environmental, social and economic challenges, preserving our open spaces has never been more important for a good quality of life and a more sustainable future."
The mayor has yet to be in office for six months, although he has already done much to make his thoughts known on construction.
Recently Mr Johnson dealt a blow to Ian Simpson and Wilkinson Eyre's neighbouring towers, planned for London's South Bank, deeming them ''unacceptable''.
