E.ON has donated money to a charity to help them install a carbon neutral biomass boiler.

The energy company has donated the money to the Magdalen Project under its SOURCE community initiative and is reminding other community groups that applications are still being taken.

The Magdalen Project has worked with children and adults to educate them on reducing carbon footprints and sustainability.

Jane Branscombe, community relations manager for E.ON, said the energy company was "delighted" to be able to donate money from the fund which is "designed to help community groups get sustainable energy projects off the ground".

The new boiler will save around 56 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year and will also help with the education of the projects subjects.

Gyles Morris, the chief executive of the Magdalen Project, said the funding was "fantastic news", adding that the boiler was "hugely important".

E.ON has recently announced plans for a biomass power station, to be based in Sheffield.
