CMS Cameron McKenna is said to be eyeing up estate agents in robust markets as a new revenue source during the economic crisis, it has been reported.

Already, five corporate lawyers have been sent to eastern Europe and seven associates are being considered for a further move.

Managing partner Duncan Weston told the lawyer.com: "We have got a general policy, which we adopted when I took over, of relocating our lawyers around the practice.

"We are looking at areas that are not busy and shifting our resources," he added.

The moves come as solicitors and estate agents across the UK are facing redundancy in the face of falling consumer and financial sector confidence.

With the financial rescue package in the US still on tenterhooks it will be some time before the confidence it is designed to create trickles down to the property market.

As such, in the meantime it will be crucial for international solicitors to make the most of the option of sending their workforce abroad, to cope with markets which are currently not so badly hit by recession fears.
